“I’ve only had the opportunity to hold a hamster once,” said Dakota Fanning on Gmail chat. “Its paws were so tiny. I think I cried a little.”
“I saw a hamster eating its babies,” said Haley Joel Osment. “I wanted to give it a high-five. But it didn’t know what a high-five is.”
“I would eat my babies if I had some. I don’t have any babies.”
“How old are you?” said Haley Joel Osment.
“16. It’s probably good I don’t have babies.”
“You are not 16. You are like 25.”
“No, I am 16,” said Dakota Fanning. “I drew a hamster on a pink piece of paper today then I threw it on top of a recycling bin full of paper so whenever anybody recycles paper the hamster will look at them and be cute for them.”
Haley Joel Osment said that was cute.”

Sam woke around 3:30 p.m. and saw no emails from Sheila. He made a smoothie. He lay on his bed and stared at his computer screen. He showered and put on clothes and opened the Microsoft Word file of his poetry. He looked at his email. About an hour later it was dark outside. Sam ate cereal with soymilk. He put things on eBay then tried to guess the password to Sheila’s email account, not thinking he would be successful, and not being successful. He did fifty jumping jacks. “God, I felt fucked lying on the bed,” he said to Luis a few hours later on Gmail chat. “I wanted to fall asleep immediately but that is impossible. I need to fall asleep. Any second now. Just fall down asleep.”
“I played video games,” said Luis. “Perfect Dark. I killed people for two hours then I got bored. I know what you mean by impossible.”
“This is fucked,” said Sam.
“You know those people that get up every day, and do things,” said Luis.
“I’m going to eat cereal even though I’m not hungry,” said Sam.
“And are real proactive,” said Luis. “And like are getting things done, and never quit their jobs. Those people suck.”
“We get shit done too,” said Sam. “Look at our books.”
“I know, but that brings in no money,” said Luis. “Are we, like, that word ‘bohemians.’ Or something. Our bios: ‘They lived in poverty writing their masterpieces.’”
“We are the fucked generation,” said Sam. (from: Shoplifting from American Apparel

about

So, what did you do with your lockdown? Spilt Milk's Marc (git, vox) got hold of 2 gigabytes of old (2009-2011) home demos, rehearsal room recordings and etcetera – courtesy of ex-drummer Marcel – and listened to them all. Once he got used to his own cringe-worthy Lou Reed-impression vocal stylings, he had a strange suspicion they were probably the best he’d ever been part of.

Well, some of them anyway. Most of them were crap. But some seemed accidentally brilliant. He made two compilations, one of the before-Brenda-(amazing vox, percussion, glockenspiel)-era – when it was just the three of them, Marcel, Marc and Remco (bass) – and one of the, well, Brenda-era, and sent them out to friends and fiends, who confirmed his suspicions: yeah, these were probably the greatest recordings put to cell phone ever.

Glove Compartment, the still fresh subsidiary cassette label of Subroutine Records, is proud and confused to release the Brenda-era one on glorious eighth-inch tape, titled Moments, with artwork by the late, great Jacco Weener. Twelve (12!) tracks of accidental and not-so-accidental brilliance, featuring their hit home demo ‘North American Hamsters’ (“I have a neutral facial expression”), B-side ‘We Are Fucked’ (which has something of a home video: bit-point-ly-slash-spiltmilkisfucked (for some reason Bandcamp won't let me link to this)), and ten more.

If they sell enough of this one, they might consider putting out the pre-Brenda tape as well, which in Marc and Brenda’s estimation is even better. So pre-order today. You only have the opportunity to hold a hamster once.
